Brazilian/Manzilian FAQ’s

So you’ve heard about intimate waxing, and you think you’ve built up the courage to give it a try. But now reality is setting in.

“How do I prepare for an intimate wax?”

“How long does my hair have to be?”

“Where do I even go for a genital wax?”

It can feel a little intimidating and even a little overwhelming.

Fear not. This blog is going to answer all your questions so you can confidently book your Brazilian wax and be on your way to smoother days.

About us:

Here at Luna Beauty and Wellness cleanliness is number one. Double dipping is NEVER ok. Hospital grade disinfectant is used between every client to clean the table and all implements used. Your safety and comfort are our priorities.

We also pride ourselves on being an inclusive salon. Every BODY is welcome. We are experienced waxing plus sized bodies, men, humxns with a vulva or a penis, different hair types and skin conditions. No need to be self-conscious, we’ve seen it all. We are focused on removing as much or as little hair as you want gone. That’s it. No judgment here.

Education is also a big part of every treatment. No hard selling, no shaming your routine, just open, honest communication about your current skin/hair conditions, your goals and the next steps to get there.

To ensure a safer and more comfortable service, we use hard wax for intimate waxing and sensitive areas to protect the integrity of the skin. Hard wax clings to the hair (think shrink wrap) but not the skin. This makes the hair removal as gentle as possible on the skin and reduces the risk of irritation.

Pricing: Brazilians for humxns with a penis and Manzilian waxes are set at a higher price point than Brazilians for humxns with vulvas because they include a full butt wax, not just the butt strip. Those services may also take a bit more time due to the differences in anatomy.

We are proud to say we were voted Best Waxing in Camarillo by the Camarillo Acorn.

Preparing for your wax:

First of all, you need hair. The worst feeling is being turned away because you were too impatient to grow it out long enough. For most people you need to wait at least 2 weeks from your last shave or 4 weeks from your last wax. We have to make sure there is enough hair for the wax to grab. Think of a long grain of rice or a sprinkle on a donut. If your hair is that length you ae good to go.

Gentle exfoliation is also helpful. Use a washcloth or exfoliating glove in a circular motion on your skin for about 60 seconds. This knocks down dead skin around the hair and will help the skin let go of the hair for easier removal.

Consider your medical conditions and any medication you are currently taking. Acne medication or skin thinning drugs are a contraindication for waxing. Please consult your doctor if you are unsure if waxing is safe for you.

After your wax:

For 24-72 hours after your wax, you’ll want to do your best to avoid irritating or introducing bacteria to the area. That means anything that can cause friction, heat, or sweat is a no go. No sex, saunas, swimming, super hot showers, intense workouts or scrubbing. Just gentle cleansing and loose, breathable clothing.

Using correct aftercare will help reduce the risk and severity of ingrown hairs as well as help keep the hair and skin soft and prime for removal. A perfect aftercare routine consists of physical exfoliation (think exfoliating glove, net, scrub, etc. Loofahs are not recommended due to their ability to harbor bacteria), chemical exfoliation (an ingrown serum to prevent & heal any breakouts) and a moisturizer (yes, you need to moisturize your intimate area. A lightweight oil is what we recommend). You’ll want to schedule your next wax in 4-6 weeks. This ensures your hair is long enough for removal, but the hairs are still connected to the blood supply. Every wax is an investment. Every time we wax, we are damaging the hair follicle. Over time with consistent waxing the hair becomes thinner and grows in less dense. Your hairs will sync up to the same growth cycle, which results in a cleaner wax and feeling like the hair takes longer to grow back. And the biggest perk? It hurts less! We want to stay consistent so that the follicle stays weak and doesn’t have time to get thick and healthy again. That’s why skipping waxes is discouraged. Waiting 8+ weeks starts the cycle over.
